Rufus Wainwright

My mum still talks about me asking for a cigarette and a glass of chocolate at the age of 5 while running around the house singing my head off, having no idea the meaning behind these lyrics.

So to see Rufus live was a bit of a dream come true!

Sitting only two rows from the front, I had a view so fantastic I spent a whole song just staring at his outfit. There were four costume changes throughout the night, but this coat was covered in what must have been hundreds of buttons. It would have had to have weighed so much! He also wore a beautiful black feather cape which looked damn magnificent on him. Something I could see my mum wearing for sure!

Now you all know that I am not known for my way with words and indeed this post has far more words than I usually ever write, so forgive me if I don't describe the sound of Rufus' performance perfectly.

This performance was certainly not a man performing for the first time. No, this was of a man who devoted his life to music, a commitment which was felt through his singing and playing. Not a single mistake was made (at least not one a mere human would hear). Everything was performed so tightly, and the set flowed seamlessly. As the show drew on, my joy was dampand by the melancholic emotions of the music, especially for the songs 'Going To A Town' and 'Sword of Damocles'. But I was filled back up with happiness with the closing track 'Across the Universe.'

A very unforgettable night!

Pussy Riot: Riot Days

I walked in not knowing what to expect. I was both jet-lagged and sick.

Just a little background for those who aren't politically informed with what's been happening in Russia and the wider world.

Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist protest punk rock group based in Moscow formed in 2011. The activist group are fighting for change, fighting for prisons rights, gender equality, world peace and are fiercely opposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom the group considered to be a dictator. Many of the members have spent time in prison, but by the looks of things this has only made them fight stronger.

Riot Days was a combination of a live Art performance/concert/protest/riot/speech and singing purely in Russian with video footage playing behind with subtitles. I just wanted to do whatever was needed to help! Anyone can be Pussy Riot!

Jon Hopkins Live @ Laneway Festival

Jon Hopkins was a perfect way to end a busy busy day. After staying at Florence for my favourite songs, I ran back to the Dr Marten stage to photograph Jon Hopkins. After shooting I found a spot where I could see the mesmerising VJ (visual DJ) playing behind him. As I sat I drifted off with the music into a calm kind of zone.

Thank you St Jerome's Laneway Festival for another blood great day! See you next year!

Denzel Curry Live @ Laneway Festival

Now this man has energy, legging it around the stage running back and forth tirelessly.

He barely stopped moving to allow for photos to be taken. Denzel must just be so fit. I felt intimidated in the way he leant over us to reach the crowd and man that crowd was nuts. You just couldn't take your eyes off him as he performed! This was one artist I could not sing along with at the top of my lung because I would never be able to remember all his lyrics, let alone rap them.
